Disadvantages:
- Spam: unsolicited mail such as junk mail. these junk mail can fill up your email space very quickly. Even if you block the sender's email address they just keep coming in via a different email address. Sometimes you can event be getting multiple junk mail at one time. This can be really irritating to user because they are being bombarded with many times useless and unwanted emails. [3]
- Email can get lost in the server often. Even thought alot of people don't recognize this issue, there are many emails getting lost everyday and these are never returned to their rightful destination causing problems especially if they were private and confidential. However emails do have a less likely of a chance to get lost compared to letters mainly the long distance ones. [4]
- Viruses can easily enter your PC or laptops via attachments on emails and easily spread across your whole computer. These viruses can be very dangerous and eventually ruin your computer and they are hard to be intercepted as they are created in different forms which makes it hard for the anti-virus software to detect. Mainly these virused attachment email are sent intentionally.
- Phishing: sending an email to a user falsely claiming to be a legitimate company to scam the user into providing information, such as personal information and bank account numbers on a bogus website. The details will then be used for identity theft. This can put an individual into serious trouble, this is because they have given such personal/private information out to people that they shouldn't have done. Leading to it being exploited on the Internet.
- No emails services allow for the user to see if the email has been delivered to the righteous recipient and if they have read it or not, keeping the sender on their toes thinking constantly about the whereabouts of the email especially if it a sensitive emails containing private and confidential information.
