Disadvantages:
- If the website is down for maintenance then customers cannot view their online accounts. Sometimes websites are not just down for maintenance but crash or have melt down when there are too many users. [19]
- You can't deposit physical items such as cheques or cash online. You will need to visit the branch or send by post. Having this option would bring in more potential users to bank online because they wouldn't have travel to the bank as often, especially business men or people who get their salary through a check.
- The process of signing up for online banking can be really long process sometimes and at one point you may have to travel to the bank to make the process easier and quicker for yourself. This is because the process can sometimes take up to 2 weeks. In order to register for your bank's online program, you will probably have to provide ID, but thats for security reasons anyway.
- Customer service: There is no personal contact with any of the staff, and if talk to any staff through the telephone, you have guarantee you are talking to the best person available.
- Security concerns: even though banking websites are heavily secure you can not 100% assure a customer that they have no chance of becoming a victim of a hacker. [20]
